These little town blues....

Well, it's happening again!!!

These freaky coincidences are popping up everywhere!

Yesterday a friend of mine came over and told me that he was going down to NYC to show off his hat collection, which was followed by a 'You wanna come with us?"

I almost died!

Then later on tonight, I spoke with a friend about all of this 'Sienfeldesque coincidences' and he said:oh my GOD! My cousin is always asking me when I am gonna come to New York to see him!! You know that I used to live in New York for a year?

Guess what?
Yep. You guessed it!
I almost died again!!

Then tonight - I was writing an email to a friend of mine, and what pops up in the pop up window next to my message? An add for a contest for where else??

'fry me to new york - win a trip to new york... from New York Fries!"

but the lovely disclaimer says: not open to residences of Quebec. Hello!?!?

BUT the contest originates from Ontario - Toronto, which is another place that has been popping up in questions about my travels lately!!

AHHH!!!!

Now, all I need is the cash and the way to get there.

I am also working on getting to Portugal in January....

Hmmm...

OH!! And there is talk that we might be getting a 500 seat gig to put on Sex and la cité!!

When it rains, thank your lucky storm clouds!!

AND (you might be wondering...Does she ever stop with these annoying ANDs???!)

Angel - A. Wanna come to NYC with me??!?! oxox

Memory foam and the space shuttle.

First, let me apologize for my untimely absence.

Aside from having sold out all the shows we had at the comedy nest (3 nights - 4 shows), I still have to remind myself. I am having a hard time believing it!!

I have been trying to catch up on some much needed rest and relaxation, trying to put my life and paperwork which has covered every inch of my office completely and just get back in to the groove. It has been a slow process, but I am getting there, paper by stupid sheet of paper!

So as it turns out, the Gay Pride parade went on last night. Apparently, it is one of the bigger ones in the world. I was supposed to be in it - with the rest of the Gals from Sex and La cité, but I was just too exhausted and the thought of me having to carry a banner for two hours while walking on the side of the car that they were going to be sitting in did not push my buttons. Although Charlotte (the director and Charlotte...) asked me last minute if I wanted to be the waitress, but I could not even see standing up in the back of a pickup truck for two hours, smiling and waving.

I don't know how the Queen and the Pope do it.

They must be doing some mean pectoral exercises to help them keep their arms up for that long!! And apparently is was a smashing success!! A friend of mine was at the parade and said as soon as the float for Sex and la cité came by, people by the thousands went MAD! Cheering and dancing (there was music playing in the pickup) that it was the highlight of the parade!! Well, I know that was the kind of publicity we needed to generate interest in our show in September during the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, transgendered theatre festival (now that was a mouth full).

In retrospect, I am a little bit disappointed that I missed it, but at the same time, its the four girls who make the show and with whom the people will identify with. Ahh, next one! I got to see myself on video!!

We got the DVD copy of one of the shows and I was laughing my ass off watching my performance as the Greeknd Italian mothers!! I could not bebeliev how over the top I was, and how people actually applauded!! It was interesting as I noticed that seemed rushed through my lines, so next time - pacing.

Caloovy, Angel A and Gama - I will have to make copies of the DVD which might take me some time, so I hope you don't mind waiting...

Anybody want a copy!? They would make great stocking ssuffersfor those friends and family who are big fans of the show Sex and the City!!! ;-P

Funny thing - I got a "memory foam" mattress. This is apparently the same kind of foam that was supposed to be used for the astronauts in the space shuttle for their mattresses (I thought they slept while floating around? Who knew?) but it never made it. I guess there were too many loose mattresses flying around at liftoff.

(hmm. I see a wacky comedy sketch there - astronauts being impaled by these huge sheets of foam - the try to out-float them, but they cant escape. Images of men and women - faces being swallowed up into a huge monolith of white sponge!!)

but I digress...

I have yet to try it! I put it on the bed today (I figured, what an appropriate day to do so - the space shuttle lift off and all) and am going to hit the foam soon. So why is this mattress topper so special? Well, it conforms to every curve of your body - its like sinking into a really big marshmallow but better (and less messy)! And the foam springs back slowly, so it does not gap or turn into a concave abyss once you have rolled over into another position. Well, Ill be sure to give you the report.

On another note: I don't know if I had mentioned this in previous blogs (maybe I have and will have to check cause if I have - then I am just going to creep myself out a whole lot...) but NYC has been calling me for months now. I had this "calling' to go there since January and I have no clue why, all I know and sense is that there is something there (or someone? not sure yet) that is waiting for me and this will once again, change the direction in my life. Just like the way I took on the play - following my gut instinct, and telling people back in January that it was going to be a success and sell out crowds, this feeling is so strong and gets stronger all the time!!

In the past few weeks, I have met up with about 5 people who either live in New York or will be visiting there in the next few months. I just spoke with an uber cool funky photographer who said that he would gallivant with me as we paint the town magenta, cyan and yellow (inside joke for photographers...) and not too long after , I got an email from a guy who happened to see my pix on flickr who HAPPENED to work on a movie I did this time last summer who now lives IN NEW YORK!! He said: "if you want to come down in August, you are more than welcome to stay here - my roommate is going to Europe for a month..."
Now how coincidental is that???????!!!!!!! I am flipping a wee bit!

And then there is a friend from Puerto Rico who is willing to make a detour from Chicago to meet me in NYC for a few days and explore the city together cause we are both virgin visitors! And - One of my bestest friends who I have not spoken to in ages called me up today to say hi. She lives part time in NYC and goes there to visit her family often...

These little town blues, are melting away,
I want to be a part of it -
New York - New York!!

Sometimes when you ask a question - throw it out there for the universe to help you find the right solutions, you get hit with a boomerang in the head - but ohh! How sweet the pain!!!

WOW! Can we sell out more shows???!!

Just a quick posty wosty as I am getting ready to go out before I melt into a puddle of drippy flesh...

Well, we sold out....
EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOLD OUT THURSDAY, FRIDAY...

and the best:

BOTH SHOWS ON SATURDAY NIGHT!

PEOPLE WERE ACTUALLY TURNED AWAY AT THE DOOR ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND THE FIRST SHOW ON SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!

How insane is that?!?!?

I am still stunned!!!

And the show went really well, despite a lukewarm crowd Thursday ( we all left dejected and feeling a little off, despite the show`s owner telling us that people were not used to seeing a play, but a series of stand up comedians and that people were commenting on how amazing the play was.

Friday rocked!! The crowd loved every second of our play. People hollaring and cheering. It was surreal.

Saturday - both shows to a packed house - 9:30pm crowd amazing!
11pm crowd quiet, but loosened up at the end.
As we did our final bows, the director thanked the crowd, then Carrie(director) introduced her, Samantha (producer) and then grabbed me by the hand and said:
and our writer!!
And the crowd roared and cheered!!

I froze, but a good frozen.
With a silly goofy smile on my face.

Wow!

Then the aftershow party - the manager and staff of the club saying how great we were and then told me how amazing it was that is was my first play, and that is nothing short of brilliant.

I am dripping sweat, but still with this silly smirk on my face...

I have tons of funny stories and cool pix to share and will do so later today and tommorow. Hopefully, one day I will be able to put some of the video here.

Until then, stay tuned.
And beleive that sometimes little miracles do happen. ;-)

After the show party gave me chills

The Royal Wave

This is a photo of Boy George - he was guest DJ at this club I was hired for to take photos. He was pretty low key, still chunky and was a real diva. Well, some things change, others never do...

The stars don't lie...

Rehearsal tomorrow and Tuesday - first show on Thursday.
Charlotte doubts that we will sell out because we are off the 'festival circuit'. It would be nice, but you can't have it all the time...

Disaster averted - we got one of our main characters back.

Phew!

It's hot outside but an occasional breeze sweeps through my window, carrying with it a veil of stale cigarettes and a damp moldy air conditioner filter. The people downstairs smoke all the time, I doubt they butt out when they sleep, and they have garbage bags taped to all the windows. You have to ask questions about people who tape garbage bags to their windows as curtains - for the past 2 years!! I hate to think what the inside of their house looks like...

So I am on the cusp of a new day, a new week, wondering what the future will have in store for me.

What did I do?
Consult the stars! What else!!!!?

Aries Week July 11-17th.

A Disciplined Approach

This is one of those important times in the astrolological calendar, as Saturn changes signs from Cancer to Leo. An entirely new and very dramatic phase is starting for you in terms of your creative potential. With Saturn in Leo you are going to become deadly serious about your ability to have confidence in yourself - more determined than you have been for some time. Saturn enters Leo on Saturday at the same time that Mars in Aries trines Pluto in Sagittarius. You will be very aware that change and transformation require action of a powerful nature. This is not the moment to decide to kick back and see what happens. You are being asked to participate in life as much as you can and as much as you dare. (??!!!) Mercury and Venus are still in Leo, putting you in the spotlight and helping you to attract the attention you need to get new ideas underway (okay, that sounds good to me!) . At the start of the week both planets oppose Neptune, so don't get carried away by plans that may not be in your best interest, especially those suggested by other people. They may look great on the surface, but behind the façade things may not be as they seem. Venus trines Mars on Sunday, which is great for romance! (?!?!? HUH?)

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Last minute walk outs and phone in sex talk shows...

Just a brief brief update.

Well, the show is going to be put on again at the Comedy Nest next week. We are going to have 4 shows. I could have never ever beleived it.

Last night, Charlotte, Samantha and I were interviewed on a phone in sex show with Dr. Laura (not schleshenger...I think that is how you spell her name...) but a local Laura. She asked about when the show was playing and other Yadda yaddas. The phone never made it to me but Samantha put in a wonderful plug for me. I was very happy about that!

Fingers crossed though...
We might just be getting an interview with the city`s biggest morning show hosts! Terry DiMonte is a huge celeb and funny as hell here in the city, and everybody listens to his show. Thing is, we might have to get up at 5am to be on the show for 7am!! but it will be fun if it happens - FINGERS CROSSED!!

Just got wind that our Pascal is dropping out from the play.
This is serious stuff. It would be horrible if it actually happened. He is upset becasue he thinks that we payed one of the stage managers, but the truth is, NOBODY GOT PAID A CENT!! We all did it for the love of the project.

And Pascal is such a great actor and in this part, he really shines. It would be so horrible if this happened, less than a week before the show...

I will keep you all posted...

This woman is brilliant. You must run to see her stuff.

She is so brave - many of her photos deal with mental illness and the isolation and alienation that goes with being `diagnosed`, and me, being an advocate of educating the public beleive it`s people like Esther G that will make a difference.

I`ll tumble for ya!

It was a sauna in there and I have the photos to prove it!!

Well seeing Boy George was certainly the experience! And it was really funny to see that most of the people there to witness this event were over 30!! There were two guest DJs who were really great sports about having their photos taken (which made my job easier!) but then the Boy came out and the crowd went wacko! I had to protect my lenses from being swashed by the sheer force of the impact of the act of being sandwiched! But once a diva always a diva cause low and behold, he told some roadie guy to tell me to stop taking photos.

But it must have looked so funny now that I think about it!! I was so into my photojournalistic mode! Picture this - I was lying on the stage with my legs in various states of being crossed and propping myself up, leaning on my elbow, shoulder, knee, twisting myself into the shape of a Bonsai to get just the right shot, and at one point, I think I was almost in front of the `DJ booth` and I must have made quite a spectacle - here is the man who took the world by storm with his wacky hats and funky makeup, not sure if he was a boy or girl... and here I am, lying almost flat on my back, with this giant zoom lens jutting out from the bottom of the stage! I tried not to use the flash much (I know how performers hate that!) but I guess I would be annoyed if somebody would be poking their nose into my DJ time too! And I guess it does not help that he is gay cause I was looking smashing that night (I guess that is why those two other DJ`s were more than willing to let me take their photos!! LOL!!)

Well, dropped off the cd to the club owners today. I am just hoping that they like what they see and will be willing to hire me again.

I hope I hope I hope!

I will be going to see Daniel Lanois this Friday!! I love this man but every time I wanted to take photos of him, something always happened! The film was underexposed, the lab fucked up with the order, and then the last time, I forgot my camera!! So this time, I am taking my baby and the rest of her attachments if I have to shove them into my underwear and bra to get past security guards for this show!!

Ahh, summer here is grand! The jazz festival has started and all the streets are filled with music. I will take some snaps of those to post here as well...

And the play? We start rehearsals next week!! WOO HOO!!!

I can’t wait! There is something so magical about theater...

What a summer! And it’s only just begun!

Loss for words...

this is an audio post - click to play

This is trippy. I got this from audioblogger.com and it was pointed out to me by a flickr friend named Duane (or drp) , so the reference is to him about the singing.

So what do you think?

I wanted to keep it short but it was shorter than I realized!

How could somebody who writes so much be at such a loss for words?

Another great mystery to solve!!

(Now if I can just find out how to add that flickr banner to this blog so you can all see my photos!)
